Ensuring students are heard is key to making UniSC the best university it can be, and this requires a robust, independent student governance framework.  Following a review of student governance, UniSC and the Guild are working together to transition the current Student Senate model to a new Guild-led Student Representative Council (SRC).  As a part of the Guild, the new SRC will be independent of the University and, like all Guild functions, be led by students for the benefit of students. You can see the design of the 2027 SRC here.

The SRC is a team of students, elected each year by the student body to represent UniSC students and make sure their voices are heard in the places decisions about students are made.    You can see the design of the 2027 SRC here.

The SRC comprises many sub-groups representing many diverse cohorts, from different schools of studies, different campuses and different equity needs. These sub-groups work together through meaningful governance structures and deliberate, two-way connections with the Guild and University governance bodies to ensure that all students have an opportunity to be heard.  

Although the Student Senate has also been filled with Student Representatives, and has represented many of the same student groups the SRC will represent, it has also been administered by UniSC. The SRC will be independent and student-led, sitting within the UniSC Guild which is an independent organisation.  

The board is made up of 6 elected members, 5 student board members and the elected SRC Chair. There are also 3 optional external board member positions. The main function of the Guild Board is to govern the operation of the Guild, ensuring we meet our mission to represent and support students and create a united and inclusive student community.  

The SRC is established as an on-going sub-committee of the Guild Board, focused on student voice.  Comprised of many sub-groups, representing different student cohorts, the SRC will represent students of UniSC to the Guild Board. You can see the full make up of the 2027 SRC here.

Elections for the Guild board and SRC will be held in October 2026 for the 2027 term. Elections will be held every year, with successful candidates serving from 1 January to 31 December. Members of the Guild Board serve a two-year term.  Members of the SRC serve a one-year term.

The Guild is undertaking this transition throughout 2026.  The SRC elections will take place in October, and we encourage you to watch out for communications in the near future regarding nominations and voting. Students will be notified of their new Guild Board and SRC members in late 2026, following the election. The new Board and SRC members will commence in their roles from January 1^st 2027. You can check out the 2027 SRC Structure here, and find out more about our upcoming election by checking out our 2026 Notice of Election.
